Arkansas Baptist College was founded in 1884. True to its name, Old Main is the oldest building on the campus, being constructed in 1894. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is approximately 18,125 square feet. The renovations had to save as many of the historical elements as possible. Items such as the beadboard ceilings and wainscoting on the interior and the masonry and the windows, including the original glass panes were all repaired and/or restored. The bell tower was reconstructed back to its original appearance. One item that was not original to the building was the addition of an elevator which was necessary for the building to meet today’s accessibility requirements.
