Location: Monticello, AR
Originally constructed in the 1960’s, this 3-story concrete masonry structure at the University of Arkansas Monticello required major modifications to the entire building envelope and mechanical systems as well as the addition of restroom towers converting student rooms into suites. In addition to the complete transformation of the exterior form and materials, Bankston Hall received new interior finishes in the student rooms and public spaces. SCM Architects, along with Kinco Constructors, developed a design and construction method for adding individual restrooms for the student suites, constructing the bathroom units as pre-manufactured “pods” assembled in a local warehouse accommodating the assembly of up to 16 pods at any given time.
